Message From Merle:
"My child is in grade 7 but is at least three years behind academically in both language arts and math. She has been diagnosed with learning disabilities as well as with ADD. Thus, she has difficulty in focussing and retaining information. As well, she is having social difficulties in relating to her peers and is always being teased. She is the one who inevitably finds herself in trouble. She has been in a special program within the system which was to meet her needs; however, she is still a long way from her actual grade level. WHAT CAN I DO?".
If you recognize the child described above, we ask you to reach out and explore with us - a solution at the MERLE L. LEVINE ACADEMY INC.
In 1974 I founded the first private school in Ontario devoted solely to meet the needs of special education students. As an outspoken maverick, I recognized hyperactivity, learning disabilities and their medical component long before the community was sensitized to this problem.
The focus of the Merle L. Levine Academy (MLA) is to help children acquire academic and social skills so that they can gain the self confidence they require to function as independent learners and become self-sufficient members of society.
The school customizes individual programs for each student based upon his/her unique abiltiy to learn. My well trained and caring staff is capable of transforming students at all grade levels who are functioning below their academic potential because of learning and /or attention difficulties. Over a number of years with our help, most of these students can return to a regular public or private school to continue their education within the mainstream. Over the years our graduates have gone on to universities and colleges throughout Ontario and other provinces. How fulfilling it is to have children of our former students enrolled at the school!
